Fig. 7.2-12b. Transverse section of rhizome of a fern (Pteridium). Like Fig. 7.2-12a, this excellent section shows more bordered pits in transverse section. These must be scalariform pits, because the pits are almost as wide as each contact face; if they were circular bordered pits, the contact faces would appear to be beaded.
